Why our national perception of loose leaf tea drinking is all wrong
Unlike our cravings for coffee, our appetite for ales, or our wanting for wine, tea has never really tickled the tastebuds of the average American consumer. We don’t make it into the top 25 tea-drinking nations of the world and domestically coffee consumption continues to remain the caffeinated beverage of choice by a long shot. So just what is going on here? Why aren’t more Americans enjoying a fine blend of loose leaf tea?

Loose leaf tea warrior girl: The real historical figure of Mulan
There is a scene in the wildly popular 1998 Disney kids action animation Mulan, where the eponymous main character disguises herself as a man. The reason? To take her aging father’s place in his callup to serve his state during a time of war. Mulan then spends the rest of the film fighting bravely, proving that women warriors are just as courageous and noble as men. Sounds like the stuff of fiction, right? Wrong!

When the average person thinks about drinking loose leaf tea what comes to mind? Old, rich people in immaculate houses sipping daintily from fine porcelain. Quite possibly. The last thing the average Joe would think about is a hardened warrior fresh from the battlefield slurping down a revivifying tea blend.
